St Stephens

Easter 2020

To my Family of St. Stephen’s,

I know that we would all like to be celebrating Easter Day together as a family, but with the virus threat it will not be possible. It feels weird writing this letter instead of preaching on Easter morning.

This is not the first time believers have not been together for Christ’s resurrection.  All we have to do is read the Gospel account. The Disciples were in a lock-down situation fearing their own death, a death of persecution by the Jewish leaders. While hiding behind locked doors, they heard the story of Jesus’ return by Mary who was on her own when she met the Risen Lord. But even a locked door could not keep Jesus from visiting them. Think about all those Christian Brother and Sisters who have to hide away in fear of government reprisals for even following Jesus. They, too, must hide behind doors to read their bibles and pray.

Jesus has a way to meet his believers no matter where we are – that is the amazing thing about Him. He is not confined to a “holy building”. He is just as happy to visit those that call upon his name and seek Him though reading the scriptures and prayer.

So be of good cheer my Brothers and Sisters. Jesus has Risen. His Spirit is with us all as we continue on these uncharted days. I am keeping in touch with the Bishop’s office and taking Bishop Todd’s direction and passing it to the Wardens and Parish Council.

Every Sunday at 10 a.m. I am sitting in my chair at St. Stephens and holding all of you up in prayer. Please join me in praying for the St. Stephens family at 10 a.m. no matter where you are. We are told to pray without ceasing. So Let Us Pray! If you have any prayer request, please contact me.

I and others have been trying to keep in touch by phone and e-mail with everyone the best we can. Saying that, if we have missed anyone, please let us know.

We will get through this quarantine and be able to worship together and that will be a Joyous Day!

Peace and Blessings,

Rev. Stephen
